April Update
Dear Friends
In the midst of all that is happening within PMCH and my family, I recently found myself saying to friend, “I just need to get through Easter.” But as I reflected on those words, I realised how easily we can treat this season as something to get through rather than dwell in.
At the time of writing, I sat down to prepare my Easter Sunday sermon to be recorded and streamed—three weeks before Holy Week has even begun. There is a challenge in looking ahead to the joy of resurrection while we have yet to walk through the sorrow of the cross. But isn’t that so often the tension of our faith? We live in the hope of resurrection, even as we still experience the weight of the journey.
The days ahead invite us to slow down and walk intentionally through the most significant events in history. I encourage you to do the same. Let’s listen afresh to Jesus’ words to His disciples as He moves toward the cross. Let’s stand in awe at the depth of love displayed on a Friday on a hill in Jerusalem. And let’s rejoice that, on a Sunday morning in a borrowed tomb, death was defeated forever.
As Paul reminds us:
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Christos Anesti!
Jonny
