Day Six

Building the Kingdom

“Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  Matthew 6:10

An estimated 2 billion people pray or sing The Lord’s Prayer on Easter Sunday every year - almost a third of the world’s population. When Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them to pray, this simple yet profound prayer was his response.

At the centre of it is this powerful plea – “your Kingdom come!”  That is our primary calling – to live out the way of Jesus personally, together as a church and alongside all Christians here in the city. Yes, I need enough to live. Yes, I need forgiveness, and I also need to learn how to forgive others. Yes, I need protecting from temptation and the wiles of the evil one.  All of the above. But my purpose is to build the kingdom of Jesus in whatever way, small or large, he is calling me.

As you pray (or sing) the Lord’s prayer now, take it slowly, try rephrasing and personalising each line to relate to your life.  Use its themes to worship the Lord and to intercede for Plymouth and the world. Write out your own version and pin it up in the Prayer Chapel or stick it on the fridge as a reminder.

A number of the global prayer movements have been encouraging people to set a reminder on their watch or phone and to pray the Lord’s Prayer at midday with millions of others around the world.

Pray for PMCH and its role in the city working alongside other Christians. Pray too for our connections across the world through the projects we support – especially FAST in Romania, the Boys Home in Bethlehem, and the Leprosy Mission.
