September Update

Dear wonderful PMCH family,

I hope you've all had a good August and that those summer moments have left you feeling renewed and ready for what lies ahead. I've had a blessed time in Canada with family, a lot of which was spent in the sea (exercising a prophetic gift here as I'm writing this before leaving – I'll edit later if necessary!).

I've been reflecting on our journey through Joseph's story over the summer, and what an adventure that was! Your engagement with that series was so encouraging to witness, and I loved hearing your insights and seeing how God's faithfulness in Joseph's story connected with many of your own experiences.

As we begin September, we're embarking on a new series: "Called by God." Running through our Sunday morning services from 07 September and into advent, we'll be exploring the calls that God placed on various biblical characters—and by extension, the calls He places on each of us today.

We'll start with Abraham's call to trust and journey through stories of courage with Esther, leadership with Moses and Deborah, faithfulness with Ruth, and hope with Elizabeth. We'll meet characters who were called as children, like Samuel, those who found their calling in unexpected places like the Samaritan woman, and those whose calling came through dramatic transformation like Paul.

What strikes me about this series is how it reflects our own church family. Just as God called these biblical figures in unique ways—some to lead, others to serve, some to speak boldly, others to wait faithfully—He calls each of us at PMCH in distinctive ways too. Whether you're volunteering at the Foodbank, welcoming families at Soft Play Café, serving coffee at Discovery Café, or simply offering a smile and listening ear to a fellow church member, you're living out your calling.

As we begin this new Methodist year together, I'm reminded that calling isn't always about dramatic burning bushes or angelic visitations. Sometimes it's found in the ordinary moments—the quiet nudges, the growing sense that God is inviting us to step forward in faith.

I'm looking forward to discovering together how these ancient stories of calling speak into our lives. Who knows? You might just find that God is calling you to something new.

PMCH Livestream

Since lockdown, we've been successfully live-streaming our morning services, allowing us to connect with individuals worldwide. Our YouTube channel has enabled our congregation to participate in worship, even when they can't be physically present at church.

As we embark on a new year at PMCH, we're excited to announce a fresh start this September with a new livestream channel. If you usually access the livestream through our website, you won’t notice any changes on Sunday mornings. However, if you have bookmarked our current channel, please update it before September. We’ll be uploading the final sermon series on Joseph to the new channel, and our old channel will now be designated as PMCH Archive. All live and new recordings will be available on the new Plymouth Central Hall channel - www.youtube.com/@plymouthcentralhall

Our Youth Pastor Zoë talks about Satellites

At the beginning of August a group from PMCH went to the Satellites Youth Festival in Shepton Mallet. Satellites is a five day gathering designed to inspire teenagers to live with God at the centre of their lives for the other 360 days of the year. We were there with approximately 4000 other young people and youth leaders.

There is so much to do for the young people during the week. We would go to a main meeting altogether as a group in the morning and evening- worshipping with thousands of other people, hearing great speakers, praying together and hearing from God. Then, during the day, there were opportunities to attend Bible studies, seminars, craft activities, sports, cafes, shops for books and merch! And there was always something organised during the evening to opt into- maybe a quiz, karaoke or silent disco!

I have yet to ask the young people themselves what their highlights were, but as an observing Youth Pastor, these are mine:

Seeing our young people pray for each other and allowing themselves to be vulnerable in front of each other.

God broke through into the lives of individuals in our group- a sense of new realisation and growth in their faith.

Growing as a group together- sharing life together. All the young people willingly helped with meal prep, washing up, putting tents up and down.

I would love it if you felt you could to pray into the lives of the young people here at PMCH- pray that Satellites will have helped each one them on their Jesus journey and strengthen them as they head back into a new school term.
