June Update

It’s June!

How was May for you?

As I write this, I reflect on the previous month and the many joys. I can’t recall many busier months in the life of our church and whilst this is wonderful, increased activity brings challenge. Along with others I feel exhilarated, yet tired, and the need for ‘Sabbath’ is pressing. I hope we’re all able to enjoy some of the highlights of May whilst being able to restfully discipline ourselves effectively for the opportunities that June will bring.

One of the high points of May came over the weekend when we celebrated Pentecost. So much happened over that weekend on so many different levels of engagement: Love South West, Prayer on the Streets, Serving in the Community, Wedding, Baptisms & Welcoming of New Members etc... It was wonderful to see so many of you roll your sleeves up and get involved. I can’t help but think of how Luke records the events of 50 days after Easter. He begins his account with these words, ‘When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place (Acts 2:1).’ This ‘being together’ was more than just being in the same room. It was about being together in purpose – a unity without uniformity. My prayer for PMCH today is that we’d be ‘together’ - we get a glimpse into this togetherness later in the same chapter (Acts 2:42-47).

Out of the blue (where does that expression come from?) I had an email last week from someone I’ve never met who lives in New Zealand. He’d been reading some Bible notes I’d written and felt inclined to send me these words from Galatians – ‘What matters most is interior: faith expressed in love (5:6).’ In light of this I feel compelled to care for the unseen things in my life, and in turn express my faith more lovingly. Would you join with me?
