July Update

Dear lovely PMCH people,

As we move into July, I want to begin by expressing my thanks for the incredible generosity of our church family. Our Gift Day Appeal is ongoing, but I am delighted to share that, together, we have exceeded our target of £25,000.

Thank you to everyone who gave, prayed, and supported this appeal. Your generosity is a wonderful testimony to the faith and commitment of our church family. The funds raised will contribute to significant improvements to our Main Hall, particularly through the replacement of chairs and the installation of a new heating system. These enhancements will help us create a more welcoming, comfortable, and accessible space for worship, fellowship, community activities, and outreach for many years to come.

At the same time, I want to reassure everyone that these improvements do not diminish our ongoing commitment to those in need. As a church, we remain deeply committed to our practice of tithing and to supporting the various local, national, and international projects through which we seek to share God's love. Our desire is to be a church that cares both for our facilities and for our mission, both for our own community and for those beyond our walls.

Throughout these weeks, we have been continuing our morning sermon series, Encountering Jesus, exploring the many ways people met Jesus and found their lives transformed. Whether through healing, forgiveness, challenge, restoration, or new purpose, each encounter reveals something of who Jesus is and invites us into a deeper relationship with him.

My prayer is that this series would not simply help us learn more about Jesus, but that each one of us would encounter him afresh. In the busyness of daily life, may we make space to hear his voice, experience his presence, and be changed by his grace.

Thank you once again for your faithfulness, prayers, encouragement, and generosity. It is a privilege to serve alongside you as together we seek to follow Christ and share his love with our city.

News from PMCH

University Graduations

We are excited to welcome Plymouth University students and their families as they celebrate their achievements and graduate this year. For those of you who may use the building during the week we would like to make clear that there will be no access to the inside of PMCH between 20-24th July. Additionally, our car park will be used as a route for students to process from the University campus to the church. Consequently, a large section of the car park will not be accessible to cars and we therefore ask you to make alternative arrangements for city centre parking during 20-24th July. We are thankful to have a building that can be used by our city in this way, events like these help fund God’s ministry and keep the building running.

You may have noticed that the church has had a bit of a facelift over the last few weeks. Externally the building has been professionally cleaned and Tony has done a great job repainting the overhang which now looks very smart. The property team have been working hard to get the inside of the building tip top and some well needed work has been done on the walls in the main hall. Thank you to everyone who have provided their time and skills.

What’s coming up in July

Prayer Meeting | Wednesday 01 July | 7:30pm

Join with others as we gather to pray for the life of the world, the nation, the city and our church. Our Prayer Meeting takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Prayer Chapel at PMCH

Katona Twins | 04 July | 7:30-9:30pm | PMCH

Critically acclaimed by the Daily Telegraph as " the classical world's best known guitar duo", Peter and Zoltán Katona effortlessly transfer from strictly classical, into more popular musical genres.  Their unusual style combines classical, flamenco and finger picking techniques with the energetic stage presence of lead guitarists.

The wide repertoire of the duo spans from Bach to Piazzolla's tango music and from pop, rock and jazz standards to their own compositions.

They have travelled throughout the world enthusing audiences in New York, London, Tokyo, Moscow, Beijing, Vienna, Hong Kong and in 2009 they performed live to half a million people in arenas across Europe. Their eleventh CD was released in the Summer of 2024 and they will be playing at Plymouth Cetral Hall on Saturday 04 July

PMCH Youth

Our Newquay camp has been running for many years and is a great time with all the young people from PMCH. We stay in tents at a campsite and enjoy a whole field to ourselves. The weekend is very much a relaxing time enjoying the local beaches and spending time together building friendships. We also have some sessions exploring the Christian faith, with opportunities for discussions. Please pray for our amazing team and the young people attending this year.

We take a break from our weekly groups over the summer so please check upcoming dates at the end of this newsletter.

Children & Families

Our last Friyay Club will be on Friday 10 July 4-6pm. This will be a wonderful time to finish the term and it’s always a great way to meet other families with children under 11. Visit pmch.org.uk/friyay for more info and to book sessions

PMCH Library

On the first floor landing of our main building is an amazing collection of books, which you are encouraged to explore. PMCH Library consists of books most of which have been donated. They mainly offer a historical view of the development of evangelical theology and practice alongside the story of the emergence of the Methodist Church from its beginnings to today.

There is a huge range of material, including some recent publications on ministry, mission and prayer. Others include: Bible Commentaries, Concordances and Dictionaries; The history of the Wesleys and the Methodist Church; Biography, Testimony, Devotional, Church History and much more.

The books from the Methodism and Wesley sections are primarily for reading and study in the library room, however if you would like to borrow one from any of the other sections there is a simple form to complete by the shelves. Once you have finished with a book, please return it to the correct section.

Small group leaders alert! There is a big selection of resources for Bible study and group discussion.

Any queries to Dave Martin via the Church Office.
